Asin Thottumkal Born 26 October 1985 popularly known as simply Asin, is a former Indian film actress from the state of Kerala.
She made her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad's Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka. Asin had her first commercial success in 2003 with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi and won the Filmfare Best Actress award for the same at the Filmfare Awards South.
After several releases, her second Tamil film, Ghajini (2005), won her second Filmfare Best Actress award for her performance. She has starred in several successful films such as the thriller Ghajini (2005) and the action comedy Varalaru (2006) as the leading lady. Asin made her Bollywood debut with Ghajini, a remake of the Tamil film of the same name. She won the Filmfare Best Female Debut award for the film.
Early life and background
Asin was born into a Catholic family in Cochin. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal, originally from Thodupuzha, was involved in several businesses before he decided to close his business and take care of his daughter's acting career and was considered a successful and prominent businessman. In addition, Asin's father accompanies her to all her foreign shoots. Her mother, Celine Thottumkal, has continued her work as a surgeon despite moving her household from Cochin to Chennai and from there to Mumbai to be with her daughter. Asin says that her name means "pure and sinless". She claims that "the letter 'A' in her name is derived from Sanskrit meaning 'free' and the rest of the name 'sin' is derived from English meaning 'sin'.
Personal life
Asin lives in Mumbai.In January 2016, Asin married Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma. After marriage, she decided to quit her acting career.
