Riya Sen born Riya Dev Varma; 24 January 1981 is an Indian actress and model Her maternal grandmother Suchitra Sen, mother Moon Moon Sen and sister Raima Sen have also been actresses, so Riya comes from a family of actors. She started her acting career as a child artist in the 1991 film Vishkanya. Her first commercial success came in 2001 with the low-budget sex comedy Hindi film Style, directed by N. Chandra. Some of her other films include producer Pritish Nandy's Hinglish musical film Jhankar Beats (2001), Shaadi No. 1 (2005) and the Malayalam horror film Ananthabhadram (2005).
Rhea was first recognised as a model at the age of 16 when she appeared in Falguni Pathak's music video Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi. She has since appeared in music videos, television commercials, fashion shows and magazine covers.
Rhea has also worked as a social activist and appeared in an AIDS awareness music video aimed at dispelling widespread misconceptions about the disease. She has also helped raise funds for pediatric eye care. Rhea has faced controversies over her MMS clip with actor Ashmit Patel, her semi-nude photoshoot in photographer Dabboo Ratnani's annual calendar and her on-screen kissing in the conservative Indian film industry.
Born on 24 January 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal, Riya is the daughter of former actress Moon Moon Sen, and granddaughter of Bengali cinema legend Suchitra Sen.She lived in Kolkata with her parents and sister Raima Sen, also an actress, before moving to Mumbai. Her father, Bharat Dev Varma, is a member of the royal family of Tripura.Her grandmother, Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister, Her grandmother, Indira, was the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda. Riya's paternal grandfather, Adinath Sen, was a prominent Kolkata businessman whose father, Dinanath Sen – a relative of former Union Law Minister Ashoke Kumar Sen – was a minister, or dewan, to the Maharaja of Tripura.Both sisters are known on-screen by their maternal grandmother's maiden name, while their official surname is Dev Varma.
Riya completed her schooling at Loreto House and Rani Birla College in Kolkata.She then studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology,and pursued jewellery designing as a hobby.She mostly wears her own designs in films and advertisements.
