Kareena Kapoor born 21 September 1980 is an Indian film actress who works in Bollywood films. Born into the Kapoor film family, Kareena made her acting debut in the 2000 film Refugee. For her performance in the film, she won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. In 2001, Kapoor had her first commercial success with the release of her second film Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai Kareena then appeared in Karan Johar's drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The film became the highest-grossing Indian film of that year overseas and was Kareena's biggest commercial success to that time.
In 2007, Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in the commercially successful comedy-romance Jab We Met. Although her films have varied in box office performance, Kareena has succeeded in establishing herself as one of the leading film actresses of today in the Hindi film industry.
Early life and Family
Kareena was born in the Kapoor film family of Punjabi origin, settled in Mumbai, the capital of the state of Maharashtra, India. Kareena is the youngest daughter of film actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita (whose maiden name was Shivdasani). According to Kareena, her first name is taken from the book Anna Karenina. She is the granddaughter of actor and film producer Raj Kapoor and great-granddaughter of Prithviraj Kapoor. Fondly called Bebo, Kareena is also the sister of actress Karisma Kapoor and niece of actor Rishi Kapoor.
Despite being born into a successful and well-known family in the film world, her father wanted her to marry early as per Indian tradition and stay away from acting.
Kapoor was educated at the Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and later at the Welham Girls' Boarding School in Dehradun. After studying commerce for two years at Mithibai College, Vile Parle, she did a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard University.She later developed an interest in law and joined the Government Law College, Churchgate. After completing a year there, she returned to her initial plan of becoming an actress and began training at Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting institute.
Personal life
Gossip columnists have linked Kapoor with several of her co-stars but she has strongly denied all these rumours. In 2004, she began dating actor Shahid Kapoor. Shahid Kapoor is the son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor Although she dated him, their relationship was often covered in the media and once came to the centre of media attention when some onlookers filmed them kissing on a mobile phone and released it to the media Three years later, the two broke up during the filming of Jab We Met (2007). Though initially seen by the media as a way to promote their film,their breakup was later confirmed.According to her, they still have a good relationship and said in an interview, "I have seen Shahid from his first film to Jab We Met and I can say that there is a huge change in him. I think he is an explosive bundle of talent waiting to explode. I have so much faith in him as an actor.
In September 2007, when her boyfriend and co-star Kapoor met, she revealed that she had a relationship with him. After her split from her husband, she was rumoured to be dating actor Saif Ali Khan. On 18 October 2007, during Manish Malhotra's Lakme Fashion Week gala finale, Khan spoke about their relationship, saying, "Yeah, we're not shouting it from the rooftops, but we're obviously together. And we're happy together!"Their relationship has been a topic of media attention, and the press often speculates on the possibility of their marriage or engagement. However, they have both denied the rumours.
In 2006, Kapoor announced that she would turn vegetarian to maintain her weight.
