Vanessa Anne Hudgens born December 14, 1988 is an American actress and singer. After appearing in local theater plays and television commercials as a child, Hudgens made her big screen debut in the 2003 drama film Thirteen as Noel. Hudgens played Tin-Tin in the 2004 science-fiction-adventure film Thunderbirds. However, Hudgens' most prominent role was as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical series.For her performance in the film series, Hudgens was nominated for an Imagen Foundation Award and a Young Artist Award.
Her debut album, V, was released on September 26, 2006. The album debuted at number twenty-four on the US top-song list of all time, and was later certified gold (an album that has sold at least 500,000 copies is certified as a gold record by the RIAA). Hudgens' second album, Identified, was released in the United States on July 1, 2008. Hudgens received critical acclaim for her role in the 2009 film Bandslam, which was released on August 14, 2009.
Early life and Career
Hudgens was born in Salinas, California. Hudgens lived in most of the West Coast, from Oregon to Southern California, with her mother Gina (Neguangco), father Gregory Hudgens, and younger sister Stella Hudgens. Her mother worked in various offices and her father was a firefighter. Hudgens and her family moved to Los Angeles after she received a role in a TV commercial. Hudgens is of mixed cultural descent, as her father is of Irish American descent and her mother is of Chinese-Filipino-Spanish descent from Manila. All four of Hudgens' paternal grandparents were musicians.
After beginning her musical theater career as a singer at age eight, Hudgens appeared in local productions of Carousel, The Wizard of Oz, The King and I, The Musical Man, and Cinderella. Two years after beginning her career in stage plays and musicals, she began auditioning for commercials and television shows. Her acting career began at age 15. Hudgens did not finish high school at Orange County High School of the Arts because she was homeschooled.
Private life and Public image
In an October 2007 interview, Hudgens said she was dating her High School Musical co-star Zac Efron and that they had been dating since filming for High School Musical. The pair were not paired during auditions and did not meet until rehearsals after filming began. Hudgens is a practicing Catholic and stands 5'3" tall.
Hudgens's income in 2006 was estimated at $2 million. In early 2007, Hudgens was included on Forbes' list of the richest people in Hollywood, with Forbes' website posting that Hudgens was one of the top-paid young stars in Hollywood.On December 12, 2008, Forbes released another list of "The Highest-Paid Stars Under 30". Hudgens was ranked 20th on the list, with an estimated income of $3 million in 2008.
Hudgens was ranked 62nd on FHM's list of sexiest women in 2008, dropping to 42nd on the same list in 2009. Hudgens was also named to Maxim's list.In both 2008 and 2009 she was included in People magazine's annual list of "Most Beautiful People".
