Early life
Swift was born in the borough of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Scott Swift, a stockbroker, and his wife Andrea, a homemaker. She has a younger brother, Austin. When she was in fourth grade, she won a national poetry contest with a three-page poem titled "Monster in My Closet".
At age 10, Swift began writing songs, singing in karaoke contests, festivals, and fairs around town. One summer she devoted herself to writing a 350-page novel, which remains unpublished.
She was a member of a local SNL-inspired children's sketch comedy group, where she was a natural comedic talent. After seeing her perform karaoke at a cast party, group producer Kirk Kreimer's mother suggested that Swift seemed more inclined to pursue a career in country music performance than dramatic acting. Kremer soon rented space in a local mall and began showcasing his budd seing protégée in weeknight performances of country songs with karaoke backing. With increased exposure and a growing audience, he began performing at open mic and karaoke nights. His first large-scale show was organized by local artist Petegret at the Bloomberg Fair.
Personal life
In 2008, Swift was in a high-profile relationship with pop singer Joe Jones. On November 11, 2008, during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Swift said that Jones broke up with her in a 27-second phone call. Explaining his situation, Jonas wrote on his MySpace blog (the post has since been removed), "I called the other person to discuss my feelings and it's clear my feelings were not well understood. I didn't hang up. Someone else hung up for me. A phone call is only as long as the other person is willing to talk." In addition, Jonas says he has tried to call her after the breakup to try to make up, but has never received an answer.During the same interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Swift revealed that the heartbreak song "Forever and Always" from her album Fearless, recorded in late September/early October 2008, was inspired by Jones.
Abigail Anderson is Swift's best friend, whom she has known since ninth grade. She met her in English class. Once while discussing Shakespeare, they discovered what they had in common. "We were the ones sitting in the back of the class talking about Romeo and Juliet because we were so bitter about that feeling back then," Anderson said. "We really bonded ... and never parted ways since."Anderson also appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to surprise Swift. Anderson was also mentioned in Swift's single Fifteen.
Swift is also close friends with Kellie Pickler, having co-written with Pickler the second single from her self-titled album, Kellie Pickler, "Best Days of Your Life".In July 2008, Swift graduated from Aron Academy, a Christian school that runs a home-schooling program in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
